The AN/PVS-14 is a monocular night vision housing developed by Elbit. This popular and successful design has been produced by other companies such as ACT In Black and L3 Harris as well as being both copied and improved upon by yet more actors on the market.

History

The AN/PVS-14 was designed in 2000 and entered into US Military service that very same year and remains (as of August 2022) in use with the US Armed Forces as well as a number of NATO-member countries.

Designed to use a thin-film 3rd generation IIT it features auto-gating and is operated by a single 1.5V AA battery.

Original device

While developed by Elbit Systems it has been produced primarily by Litton Ind. (now L3) and Elbit Systems of America (formerly Harris Night Vision, formerly Exelis which in turn was formerly ITT). Since the designation of AN/PVS-14 is from the Joint Electronics Type Designation System the nomenclature does not specify any particular manufacturer nor is it a brand specific model name but rather any device that complies fully with the parameters and specs can be designated AN/PVS-14.

ACTinBlack

ACT PVS-14 housing.

ACTinBlack has produced a version of the original housing called ACT PVS-14 that closely follows the original specs and design. Compare this with their own further developing of the original form to create the ACT THE-14, which is compatible with most if not all PVS-14 mil-spec accessories whilst remaining a separate model device.
