Signal-to-noise Ratio it the ratio between the actual image (signal) and noise like scintillation.

A bad SNR, compared to other the datasheet or the general specifications, can be one sign of a Tube that at its end of life.  
A very noisy and possibly dim image can be one sign of a end of life conditions if it can be assumed the factory specifications were considerably higher than what is observerd.
