The PNR-1 is a generation 0 device of Soviet origin. It was introduced before the PNV-57 and was to be used by sappers and combat engineers.[1] It fulfilled a similar purpose as the newer Polish NS-71. The device has a headmount similar to ones found on PVS-5, Fero D-51 and Type 85. Mounted on top of the device itself is an IR lamp there to provide sufficient illumination for the device to work. Additionally there is a helmet mount, there to mount the device to SSh-60 and SSh-68 helmets. The name PNR-1 is short for прибор ночных работ-1 which translates to night work device-1.[2] There is also a modernized variant called PNR-1AM. The modernized version of this device has been made up to (at least) 1991. The PNR-1AM uses V-4 tubes.
